Sebring race winners
The Sebring International Raceway in Florida is most famous for having staged the 12 Hours of Sebring sportscar race since 1950.
The circuit is unique in that it sits on a section of the Sebring Regional Airport, which was built in 1940 as Hendricks Army Airfieldfor the US Army Air Force.
The first race was held in 1950, and the first 12-hour race in 1952. In 1959, the circuit also hosted the first-ever United States Grand Prix, although it would only stage the race on the one occasion.
In 1983, and again in 1987, changes were made to the circuit to shorten it and allow for the simultaneous use of the airfield’s runways.
Due to the nature of the circuit’s history, the track surface is highly variable and notoriously bumpy. Today, the circuit still features around 1.1 km of its total 5.95 km length of concrete.
