Hyundai Motorsport will continue to employ Mikel Azcona, Néstor Girolami and Norbert Michelisz as its trio of drivers in this year’s FIA TCR World Tour.
Michelisz, 40, is the longest-serving driver of Hyundai Motorsport Customer Racing, having joined the marque in 2018, securing the FIA WTCR drivers’ title a year later in 2019.
Michelisz added to his world titles with the inaugural FIA TCR World Tour drivers’ title in 2023 and the Hungarian successfully defended his crown last year.
“I’m grateful to Hyundai Motorsport and BRC Hyundai N Squadra Corse to be ready for another season,” said Michelisz.
“In pre-season testing we’ve solved some open topics from last year. It’s the fifth season with the Hyundai Elantra N, but we have still identified some areas where we could improve, and I think we made good steps.”
Azcona joined Hyundai in 2023 after a long association with CUPRA dating back to his TCR début in 2018.
The Spaniard, a two-time TCR Europe champion, won the final FIA WTCR title in 2022 and was sixth in his first TCR World Tour season in 2023, improving to finish third overall last year.
“If you look at the last four years, BRC Hyundai N Squadra Corse have won everything, but every year we start from zero again,” said the 28-year-old.
“My goal is the same since I joined Hyundai Motorsport, to win the championship. I feel in a better shape now than in 2024.”
Girolami was the most recent addition to Hyundai’s driver line-up, joining in 2024 after five years with Honda.
The Argentine took one win on his way to sixth overall in the drivers’ championship last year.
“I really hope that we put together a strong season again and are able to celebrate at the end,” said Girolami. “I learned many things last year and I have more confidence going into this season.
“This will help me to have a better pace, especially in qualifying. My focus is to be in a position to fight for the championship.”
Hyundai Motorsport Customer Racing Manager Benoît Nogier explained that he wanted to keep the same driver line-up for 2025 as soon as he knew it was a possibility.
“As soon we knew that we could keep the same driver line-up, then that was our aim,” added Nogier. “They worked excellently together with each other and the team, which was vital in helping Norbert win the title in Macau.
“Our aim with BRC Hyundai N Squadra Corse for 2025 is very straight forward. We want to win both titles.”
