Felipe Fernández Gil and Santiago Concepción will join the RC2 Racing Team for the 2025 TCR Europe season, where both will continue to race in Honda Civic Type-R machinery.
Fernández, 40, has raced in TCR since 2021, variously in TCR Europe, TCR Italy and TCR Spain. His only outright victory has been in the 2022 TCR Italy finale, but last year the Spaniard picked up two podiums in TCR Europe on his way to fifth overall in the drivers’ standings.
Concepción, 21, also joins the Barcelona-based team, having raced for Rubén Fernández’s GOAT Racing team last year.
In only his first year of TCR competition, Concepción improved over the course of the season, culminating in a best finish of fourth in the Valencia season finale, whilst also ending up tenth overall in the drivers’ standings.
Both drivers are moving to the RC2 outfit from GOAT Racing, although the Fernández brothers (Felipe and Rubén) have had a long-standing relationship with the team after making their débuts in 2021.
“First of all, I want to thank everyone involved in this project for embarking on this venture once again, especially my family for their support and to RC2 Racing Team for their trust in me,” said Fernández.
“Last season I wasn’t as consistent as I would have liked and I made some mistakes. Over the off-season I have worked together with RC2 Racing Team to improve those driving areas and also how to prepare for the weekend, driver and car, to be fast from the very beginning of FP1.
“For this season I would like to improve on my 2024 results, but more importantly, improve my qualifying performance, which I think was my weakest point last year.
“The 2025 TCR Europe calendar also looks amazing. I’m glad to see Spa back again as it’s one of my favourites, and one of the few where I’ve had the pleasure to be on the podium.”
Concepción, who joined the TCR Europe grid from the second event in 2024, is hoping that some pre-season testing will boost his performances in 2025.
“The plan is to do the whole championship, and before the first race we’ll do some testing to be prepared to fight at the top from the start,” said Concepción.
“I remember the feeling very well from the last race of 2024, and I’m very excited to get racing again.
“I felt very comfortable with the guys at RC2 Racing Team, the mechanics, the engineers, and with JAS Motorsport – the car was working very well at the end of the season.
“It took some time to get the right feeling with the car but by Valencia we’d got it; so I’m thinking I’m ready to be fighting there at the front of the grid.”
