Cyan Racing’s Santiago Urrutia was excluded from the second FIA TCR World Tour race at El Pinar in Uruguay, after breaching the technical regulations after the race.
It marked the culmination of a trio of penalties for Urrutia over the weekend. The Uruguayan had already received a five-second time penalty in race one, dropping him from fourth to seventh, for contact with Néstor Girolami.
Urrutia also received a five-second penalty in race two, for contact with Esteban Guerrieri, which would have deprived him from his podium.
But in the end, he was excluded from the result altogether for manually switching on the Anti-Lag System when the engine was running, which was in breach of Article 6.4 of the 2024 FIA TCR World Tour Technical Regulations.
“The disqualification was unfortunate, but due to a genuine miscommunication,” said Urrutia. “That’s racing sometimes. We will come back strong in the next race at Zhuzhou.”
Urrutia’s penalty hands Norbert Michelisz an additional two points at the top of the drivers’ standings, with the Hyundai driver now on 244 points, 25 ahead of Guerrieri.
