Sam Laidlaw is to join the TCR UK series for the next event at Croft, where the 22-year-old will join the grid and race against his father Steve Laidlaw.
Sam Laidlaw will race the Hyundai i30 N TCR which his father Steve has campaigned in two events already this year.
Steve already took the Capture Motorsport-prepared car to a best result of sixth last time out at Oulton Park. Steve is to now move to another team for the event later this month.
It will be the first time that a father and son have raced in the series since its inception six years ago.
Sam has previously raced in this year’s Audi TT Cup Racing Championship, but now makes a change to touring car racing, having previously gained front-wheel drive experience in the City Car Cup and the Clio Cup Middle East championship
“Having enjoyed my time in the Audi TT Cup Racing Championship, when the chance came to drive a TCR car, I couldn’t turn it down,” said Sam Laidlaw.
“I’ve kept my eye on TCR UK this year and I’m really excited to get involved in the championship.
“The racing is close and exciting and it is great seeing touring cars going head to head at the circuits we have visited already.
“I’m very grateful to Capture Motorsport for giving me the chance to take part in the championship next weekend.”
Promoter Stewart Lines is looking forward to welcoming Sam to the grid in North Yorkshire.
“It’s great to see Sam making the step up to TCR UK at Croft,” added Lines. “The TCR UK Touring Car Championship is the next step up the ladder for young drivers who want to go racing in touring cars.
“Steve has already shown what he can do in the Hyundai and I look forward to following Sam’s progress next weekend.”
