Team BMW’s Adam Morgan says it was a ‘pretty good day overall’ as he put his car in sixth on the grid for the opening British Touring Car Championship race at Oulton Park on Sunday.
Morgan made his third Q3 visit of the season in the fifth event of the season in Cheshire, and emerged as the leading BMW driver in the field.
Having led the BMW charge in second practice, after following stablemate Jake Hill in FP1, Morgan was consistently the top WSR driver in qualifying and the only one to make it into Q3.
The Lancashire racer would ultimately end up over half a second from pole after he made a change prior to the ‘Quick Six’ segment of qualifying.
Despite that, Morgan was pleased with his third-row starting position for Sunday’s first race.
“It’s been a pretty good day overall,” said Morgan, who benefitted from 13 seconds of hybrid boost per lap in the session. “We rolled the BMW out in FP1 and it’s been in the window and felt really strong. We’ve just made small tweaks each session.
“In Q1 and Q2 we left the car as it was but in Q3 we made a small change as we knew we needed to find a little bit more to match the front-wheel drive cars. It was a step just a little bit too far.
“Thanks to WSR, the car’s been mega all day and hopefully we can have some good results with it tomorrow.”
