NAPA Racing UK’s Daniel Rowbottom continued to show strong pace at Oulton Park, topping the second British Touring Car Championship practice session by a tenth of a second over EXCELR8 Motorsport’s Tom Ingram.
Rowbottom, who was earlier pipped to the top time in first practice by just 0.036 seconds, posted the fastest lap five minutes from the end of the session, lapping the Cheshire circuit in 1 minute 24.536 seconds, some four tenths quicker than the pace earlier in the day.
At the circuit where he scored his first BTCC win three years ago, Rowbottom had also been fastest earlier in the session and remained close to the top throughout.
EXCELR8’s Tom Ingram was second, 0.110 seconds back, ahead of Power Maxed Racing’s Árón Taylor-Smith, the FP1 pace-setter having put in another late-in-the-day lap to go 0.125 seconds slower than Rowbottom.
Tom Chilton was fourth in his EXCELR8 Hyundai, ahead of NAPA Racing duo Ash Sutton and Dan Cammish in fifth and sixth respectively.
Team BMW’s Adam Morgan improved late in the session to go seventh as the leading WSR-run driver, ahead of the second Power Maxed Vauxhall of Mikey Doble in eighth.
The top ten was completed by Speedworks Toyota duo Rob Huff and Aiden Moffat in the satellite team car.
11th-placed Andrew Watson was the only other driver within a second of the pace, directly behind his Toyota team-mates.
Title-challenging BMW drivers Jake Hill and Colin Turkington struggled for pace in second practice, ending up 12th and 15th respectively.
Daryl DeLeon was once again the fastest CUPRA driver, putting his Unlimited Motorsport-run car in 14th.
Qualifying is scheduled to begin at 15:35 BST.
