EXCELR8 Motorsport’s Tom Ingram has been penalised with a two-place penalty for cutting the chicane in the second British Touring Car Championship race at Thruxton, giving Jake Hill a second win of the day.
On the opening lap of the race, Ingram had tried to pass NAPA Racing UK’s Cammish into the chicane at the end of the lap, but had to cut the chicane, before emerging in third, as Cammish dropped to fifth.
Ingram failed to give the position back, and although Cammish briefly dropped behind Speedworks Motorsport’s Josh Cook, a few corners later the Ford driver was back in fourth.
Ingram then circulated in the place ahead of Cammish for the next four laps before passing Sutton for second on lap five, followed by overhauling Hill for the lead three laps later.
However, officials decided that Ingram had gained an unfair advantage and demoted him two places to third, giving Hill the win and promoting Cammish to second.
