Tom Ingram on top in second Thruxton practice

EXCELR8 Motorsport’s Tom Ingram ended up as the fastest driver in the final British Touring Car Championship practice session at Thruxton, two tenths of a second ahead of NAPA Racing UK’s Daniel Rowbottom.

Ingram pipped Rowbottom to the quickest lap in the dying seconds of the session, lapping the 2.35-mile circuit in 1 minute 15.436 seconds.

Until that point Rowbottom, who last year scored one of his only two BTCC wins at the Hampshire circuit, had been quickest on a 1:15.667, ending up 0.231 seconds behind Ingram.

Reigning champion Ash Sutton was third fastest, finding nine tenths of a second from his FP1 pace despite a lack of hybrid deployment due to leading the drivers’ standings.

Árön Taylor-Smith continued Power Maxed Racing’s encouraging early weekend pace in fourth, just under three tenths from the top, ahead of Team BMW’s Adam Morgan in fifth.

FP1 pace-setter Jake Hill was sixth quickest this time around in his Laser Tools Racing BMW, ahead of Andrew Watson in seventh, who was once again the leading Toyota driver.

The top ten was completed by the second Power Maxed car of Mikey Doble, NAPA Racing’s Dan Cammish and EXCELR8’s Tom Chilton.

Thruxton win record holder Josh Cook was only 13th fastest in his Speedworks Motorsport-run Toyota, the same place as in first practice, despite finding almost a second in pace.

The session saw a brief red flag period after 23 minutes of the 35-minutes total due to the tyre stack at the chicane needing to be repositioned, after several drivers knocked it and in doing so received track limits warnings.

Qualifying is scheduled to get underway at 15:25 BST.
