Jake Hill: Pole is ‘the perfect way to bounce back’

Jake Hill described scoring his third career British Touring Car Championship as ‘the perfect way to bounce back’ after a disappointing previous round at Brands Hatch.

Having scored 35 points fewer than stable-mate Colin Turkington and 29 points fewer than championship leader Ash Sutton, along with his first non-finish in more than two-and-a-half years, Brands Hatch was a weekend to forget for Hill.

But the BMW driver came back on strong form in Norfolk on Saturday, topping the opening practice session and going third in the next session, before going quickest in every part of qualifying he took to the track in later in the afternoon.

Hill was a huge eight tenths of a second faster than Sutton on a drying track, and also beat new WSR stable-mate Bobby Thompson by 1.6 seconds.

“The perfect way to bounce back after Brands Hatch, I’m absolutely thrilled,” said Hill. “It’s a huge credit to all the guys behind me, they’ve just done an amazing job and the Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport BMW is in a really good place today.

“I was told I was fighting Josh [Cook], so I just thought let’s throw everything at it and see what happens. I was either going to be sixth or on pole and luckily it was the latter.

“This bodes well for race day. We’ve had a very good run here at Snetterton the last couple of years and let’s hope we can continue that tomorrow.”
