SP Compétition’s Aurélien Comte was fastest in both the dry and the wet in practice for the TCR Europe series at Zolder in Belgium on Friday.
The first session started on a dry circuit, but soon became wet. Comte put his CUPRA on top of the times 15 minutes into the session, with a lap of 1 minute 38.447 seconds, before the track then became too wet thereafter for drivers to improve.
Comte was thus over half a second clear of MA:GP’s Viktor Andersson in the more optimal conditions earlier on in the afternoon, with ALM Motorsport’s Ruben Volt the third fastest driver in the combined times as the leading Honda.
Monlau Motorsport’s Franco Girolami had been over a second off fellow CUPRA racer Comte in the first session, sixth quickest, before emerging second fastest and just 0.023 seconds behind in the wet.
The later session saw cars lapping almost 14 seconds slower than just a couple of hours earlier, with Comte the quickest on a lap of 1:52.261 having posted the best time just over ten minutes prior to the end.
Qualifying is scheduled to get underway at 11:20 CEST (10:20 BST) on Saturday morning.
