Aiden Moffat gave Speedworks Motorsport victory in the final British Touring Car Championship race at Donington Park, fending off first Rob Huff and then Colin Turkington for the victory.
Having finished ninth in race two, Toyota’s Huff had been randomly selected to start the final race from pole position, with Moffat alongside.
But at the start of the race, it was Team BMW’s Adam Morgan, from third on the grid, who shot into the lead, leaving Huff in second.
The former World Touring Car racer tried to get back past on the opening lap, as the BMW ahead got its tyres up to temperature, but on lap three Daryl DeLeon lost control of his CUPRA at the Old Hairpin, ending up in the gravel and prompting a safety car intervention.
After two safety car laps, racing resumed, with Morgan making a mistake at McLeans, locking his brakes and allowing Huff into the lead with Moffat following through.
The status quo at the front held for a further three laps, until on lap ten Moffat pounced on Speedworks stable-mate Huff into Coppice to seize the lead.
Huff tried to fight back over the next two laps, with some superb side-by-side battling between the Toyotas, but Moffat prevailed as Huff then went wide at the Old Hairpin on lap 12, allowing Morgan briefly back into second before Turkington and Ash Sutton muscled him out.
Huff, meanwhile, found himself out of position and slipped back to seventh as Tom Ingram and Jake Hill joined in the mix the following lap, passing into the chicane.
Hill, in fact, punted Ingram into the chicane in the process, and both Ingram and Huff had to skip across the gravel, as Morgan also dropped back to sixth in the process.
At the front, Moffat came under intense pressure from Turkington and Sutton in the final laps, but the Scot held on to claim his fifth victory in the BTCC and his first since 2021.
Turkington was half a second behind, with Sutton completing the podium, having come under pressure from fourth-placed Ingram on the last lap.
Hill was fifth, with Huff in sixth after passing Morgan for the place five laps from the end.
Morgan took seventh ahead of NAPA Racing UK’s Daniel Rowbottom, with the top ten completed by Speedworks’ Josh Cook – who had dropped back just before the safety car – and NAPA’s Dan Cammish.
