TCR Denmark regular Philipp Lindberg will join the grid of the TCR World Tour for this weekend’s event at Spa-Francorchamps, where the series joins the bill of the TCR Europe series.
Lindberg’s participation in the event, the third of the TCR Europe season and the second of the TCR World Tour calendar, will double the number of new Honda Civic Type-R FL5 cars on the grid.
The 25-year-old Dane, part of the JAS Motorsport Driver Development Program [DDP] will partner JAS Motorsport development driver Néstor Girolami at ALM Motorsport.
Lindberg recently had his first race in the new Honda in the season-opener of TCR Denmark at the Jyllandsringen circuit last weekend, where he scored a best result of 12th. Last year he scored three podiums in the series on his way to eighth overall in the drivers’ standings.
“I’m looking forward to making my Kumho TCR World Tour debut this weekend with ALM Motorsport,” said Lindberg.
“It will be my first international event and my first time at Spa, so while I’ve been maximising the amount of time I can spend on the sim at JAS and closer to home, I’m still expecting it to be a very new experience.
“So far, all the work I’ve done with Néstor through the DDP has been with him supporting me. This time we’ll be teammates so the dynamic will be different, but that’s going to be a whole new learning experience and I’m sure I can become stronger through it.
“I’m there to gain as much experience as possible and I can’t wait.”
Riccardo Incarbone, JAS Motorsport Driver Development Programme Manager, added: “We’re very pleased to be able to add the Kumho TCR World Tour event at Spa to his existing programme in TCR Denmark.
“The JAS Motorsport Driver Development Programme aims to provide a 360-degree education for any young racer who wants to become a top professional and this weekend will form a key part of that.
“Philip has learnt many useful things from Bebu [Girolami] already in our training camps and workshops at Arluno, but the chance to see how a top professional driver works on a race weekend will be very important for his development. We want him to learn as much as possible.”
Further opportunities for Lindberg in TCR events outside Europe have also been identified and will be communicated at a later date.
