Nathanaël Berthon ups the pace in second practice at the Hungaroring

Comtoyou Racing’s Nathanaël Berthon put audi on top of the timesheets in second practice for the FIA World Touring Car Cup at the Hungaroring, edging out Hyundai’s Norbert Michelisz.

Berthon lapped the circuit in 1 minute 52.805 seconds to go over a tenth of a second faster than the morning pace-setter, Néstor Girolami, had gone earlier in the day.

The Frenchman was 0.131 seconds faster than home hero Michelisz, who had made a number of changes to his car after reporting that it had not felt ideal in the earlier session.

Rob Huff was a much-improved third fastest in the leading CUPRA, the Brit having been on top of the times for much of the mid-part of the session, ending up just 0.148 seconds adrift.

Frédéric Vervisch ensured that Audi performed well with the fourth fastest time, ahead of the second Zengő Motorsport CUPRA of Mikel Azcona in fifth.

Gilles Magnus was sixth in his Comtoyou Racing Audi, whilst the top Lynk & Co driver was Yvan Muller in seventh, the four-time world champion being three tenths off the pace.

Girolami was again the best of the Hondas in eighth, directly ahead of Münnich Motorsport team-mate Esteban Guerrieri in ninth, whilst the top ten was completed by Santiago Urrutia, who had earlier been second quickest in first practice.

Championship leader Jean-Karl Vernay was notably off the pace in his Hyundai, the Frenchman, who is combining driving duties with PURE ETCR this weekend, being just 16^th fastest and over a second off Berthon.

Qualifying is scheduled to get underway at 14:30 BST (15:30 CEST).
