Eric Scalvini claimed pole position for the first race of the ADAC TCR Germany series at the Red Bull Ring, clinching his and Team Wimmer Werk Motorsport’s first pole in the series.
Italian Scalvini was over half a second quicker than Hyundai Team Engstler’s Luca Engstler, who will line-up alongside the CUPRA driver on the front row of the grid.
Scalvini’s time of 1 minute 36.443 seconds was posted in the dying seconds of the session as he prevented Engstler from claiming pole.
Honda ADAC Sachsen’s Marcel Fugel was third fastest, out-qualifying his brother for the first time since the Sachsenring last year, whilst the second Hyundai of Martin Andersen was fourth, having been demoted by Fugel towards the end of the session.
Dominik Fugel put his Honda in fifth, ahead of series newcomer Andreas Höfler in sixth, the Austrian putting in an impressive effort in the ageing Opel Astra run by Lubner Motorsport.
René Kircher was the best of the Volkswagen drivers in seventh and the last driver within a second of the pace.
Philipp Regensperger put his Opel in eighth, whilst the top ten was completed by ROJA Motorsport’s Robin Jahr and one-off entry Sandro Soubek in tenth, the latter ending up as the best-placed Audi driver.
Nicolas Gruber, currently third in the drivers’ standings, endured a disappointing qualifying session on home soil, putting his Hyundai in 12th, nearly 1.4 seconds off the pace.
Race one is scheduled to get underway at 12:10 CEST (11:10 BST) and will be streamed live online via YouTube.
