2017 TCR Italy champion Nicola Baldan will take part in two FIA World Touring Car Cup events in 2021, whilst also contesting the full season of TCR Italy with Target Competition.
Baldan will race a Hyundai i30 N TCR in TCR Italy, but when he competes in WTCR at Adria and the Hungaroring he will race a Hyundai Elantra N TCR.
It marks a return to Hyundai machinery for the Italian, who raced an i30 N TCR in TCR Italy in 2018 and the Paul Ricard and Monza rounds of TCR Europe.
“I’m really up [for it],” said Baldan. “We face a very challenging commitment. I love TCR competition and wanted to come back full time to it.
“Having the opportunity to do so with a professional team like Target and with the Hyundai cars gives me extra motivations. I couldn’t ask for more.
“Our goal is clear in TCR Italy, resuming the path that was disrupted by my incident at Imola three years ago and reclaiming the title!
“On top of this, the opportunity of joining WTCR for two events is a dream that comes true. I have been waiting this for years, I know it will be very tough, but it’s a unique chance that couldn’t be missed.”
Baldan has not contested a full season since 2018, although he took part last year in the Spa round of TCR Europe and the Imola finale of TCR Italy in a CUPRA Leon Competición.
