Although race one at Motorland Aragón was full of drama, the battles within the World Touring Car Cup (WTCR) field were largely clean. However, the one notable incident from the race has now been punished.
Around mid-way through proceedings, Luca Filippi slammed into the side of Thed Björk’s Lynk & Co upon entry to the braking zone at turn sixteen.
The incident caused the Swede – who had been attacking Filippi’s team-mate Jean-Karl Vernay – to spin out, while Filippi himself had to retire to the pit-lane.
Although it was more clumsy than malicious, the stewards have deemed the offence worthy of a five-place grid drop and three penalty points.
Filippi will now start race two from 21st on the grid, on the back row alongside Gàbor Kismarty-Lechner, who in turn is serving a penalty for requesting parc fermé neutralisation.
