World Touring Car Cup racer Luca Engstler has been added to the entry list for this weekend’s TCR Germany season finale, as he is drafted in to help Antti Buri to clinch the title.
Engstler raced in TCR Germany for two seasons in 2017 and 2018, picking up three wins in his second season after switching to Hyundai machinery.
The German then left the series last year after graduating to TCR Europe, followed by WTCR in 2020.
He was runner-up in 2018, and will once again race for his father Franz Engstler’s team this weekend at Oschersleben.
Engstler will be ineligible to score points, instead acting as a supporting role for the team’s regular drivers Antti Buri (second in the standings) and Nico Gruber.
Engstler’s usefulness in helping Buri to take the title will be limited due to his ‘invisibility’ in terms of points, however.
He joins fellow WTCR star Tiago Monteiro as a last-minute addition to the grid.
