Dániel Nagy will race a Hyundai i30 N TCR for the BRC Racing team in the 2020 TCR Europe series, returning to the series after he left part-way through the 2019 season.
Nagy was a title contender for much of the 2018 TCR Europe series, claiming one victory at Assen and six podiums, before ending the year fifth overall as his championship challenge faltered in the final rounds.
The Hungarian remained with the M1RA squad for 2019, but despite a strong start to the season at the Hungaroring, with a podium visit, the season faltered thereafter, as the 22-year-old failed to finish in the top ten at any of the next three events.
That form precipitated a parting of ways with M1RA, leaving Nagy to watch the rest of the season from the sidelines.
Nagy will now race for the Italian BRC squad, which plans to run two i30 N cars in 2020, stepping up its campaign from the one car entered for Luca Filippi in 2019.
“I’m honoured to be part of the team that won two consecutive WTCR titles,” said Nagy. “TCR Europe is one of the most competitive touring car series and since I was obliged to leave it last year I have started working to come back.
“Our story with BRC started with a quite successful test day last year in Italy. We were already very close to do something together, but it wasn’t possible for other seasons back then.
“I have lot of experience with Hyundai, which I’ll be driving this year too, and we were soon on the same wavelength with the team.
“I will still concentrate on my development as a racing driver, but I desperately want to win races as well.
“The preparation was kicked off by a test at Paul Ricard in France. Compared to recent years, as long as the international situation lets me, I’m now able to reach multiple tracks abroad for pre-season testing, which is new for me”.
BRC Team Principal Gabriele Rizzo is overseeing an expansion of the team’s European campaign, after it was earlier in the year confirmed that it would run just two cars in the World Touring Car Cup this year.
“We are proud to return to the TCR Europe series for a second season,” said Rizzo. “We are very pleased to have Dániel on board and we will do our best to support our drivers in their efforts of winning races and fighting for the title.
“We are also aiming to be a serious contender for the Teams’ title.
“We know the championship level will rise compared to the last seasons. For this reason, we already carried out the first tests.”
