Tom Ingram emerged as the fastest driver at the end of official testing during the British Touring Car Championship season launch at Silverstone, with the Toyota driver clocking a time which was half a tenth quicker than MB Motorsport’s Jake Hill in the afternoon.
Hill had earlier been the quickest driver in the morning session, when he posted a time of 1 minute 6.512 seconds around the Silverstone International circuit in his Honda Civic.
But it was Ingram who topped the afternoon session and the combined times, the Speedworks driver putting in a lap which was nearly four tenths quicker than anyone had gone in the morning session.
Honda’s Dan Cammish was third quickest, three tenths off the pace, whilst Motorbase Performance’s Rory Butcher ended the day in fourth in the new Ford Focus ST developed by the Kent squad during the winter.
Reigning champion Colin Turkington had the fifth fastest combined time in his BMW, just over half a second off the pace, ahead of Senna Proctor in sixth in an impressive performance by the all-new Excelr8 Motorsport Hyundai i30 N Fastback.
The test was held behind closed doors, with no public access due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic in the UK and Europe.
TOCA earlier confirmed that the first three rounds, originally scheduled to be held at Donington Park, Brands Hatch and Silverstone respectively, would be postponed due to the COVID-19 virus situation.
