The Wiechers-Sport team are ready for the final five flyaway races of the 2012 World Touring Car Championship, which resumes in Brazil next weekend.
After a six week break since the last WTCC weekend, which took place in Portugal at the Portimao circuit, the cars and equipment have been shipped over to Brazil ahead of rounds 15 and 16 of the campaign.
Stefano D’Aste is ready to get the season back underway after the six week break, as he likes the Curitiba circuit.
“I am delighted that after approximately a six-week break from racing, the season resumes in Brazil. I like this track very much,” explains D’Aste, who took his first outright WTCC victory at the Salzburgring in May.
“The city of Curitiba, and the country, Brazil, are worth a visit each year. The fans at the track are really great. I am looking forward to the delicious food and a visit to the steak houses of the family of my good friend and DTM drivers Augusto Farfus!”
After Curitiba, the cars will be shipped to America for the maiden WTCC race of the USA at Somona (Infineon Raceway) over the 21/22/23 September. After the American races, the series heads to Asia and Suzuka in Japan for rounds 19 and 20. Shanghai in China plays host to the penultimate race weekend, over the 2nd/3rd/4th November with the season drawing to a close on the streets of Macau over the 15/16/17/18 November.
“Immediately after the race at Portimao, we have prepared our BMW 320 TC and our equipment for the upcoming races overseas,” explains Wiechers-Sport Team Manager Dominik Greiner.
“Since 2005, the FIA WTCC has visited Brazil and we know full well before this time that this is the logistical challenge for us. The loading in Antwerp and the transportation to Curitiba were only the beginning. I am sure that we are again set for this great adventure of Brazil and prepared for Macau! “
