Brutal Fish Racing Team’s Dan Lloyd set the pace in an interrupted second TCR Europe practice session at Oschersleben, heading a Honda 1-2 with Tom Coronel just over a tenth behind.
Despite heavy rain between sessions, the circuit was dry as the second half-hour practice got underway, but almost immediately drivers were caught out.
The first of those was Team WRT’s Maxime Potty, who ran wide on the exit of the Chicane/McDonald’s sequence, causing immediate radiator damage with fluid leaking from his Volkswagen as he limped back to the pits.
A red flag followed shortly after as Tamas Tenke appeared to spin his CUPRA on the exit of the penultimate corner, striking the barrier and seemingly breaking the steering.
With just over 16 minutes remaining, the runners enjoyed some lappery, with Red Bull Ring podium finisher Alex Morgan continuing his positive form to set the pace.
Within the final minutes, however, the Welshman’s time was toppled by the Honda duo of Lloyd and Coronel, with Lloyd’s late lap of 1:31.495 not beaten as another red flag brought the session to a premature end.
With both Lloyd and Coronel showing strong pace across both sessions, the early signs suggest Oschersleben could well be a happy hunting ground for Honda machinery this weekend.
The fastest of the Hyundais was Andreas Bäckman in fourth position ahead of Gilles Magnus who would later slip off the road, seemingly on fluid dropped by practice one pacesetter Santiago Urrutia.
Series newcomer Dominik Baumann was sixth, heading his two Target Competition stablemates Josh Files and Mat’o Homola, while Urrutia was ninth before his Audi stopped out on track and caused the session to be ended with just two minutes remaining.
Taking bragging rights for Volkswagen was Gianni Morbidelli, who completed the top ten.
Qualifying for the opening race of the TCR Europe series at Oschersleben gets underway tomorrow at 09:50 CEST [08:50 BST].
