Mat’o Homola ‘will fight like a tiger’ for TCR Europe title

Mat’o Homola says he will ‘fight like a tiger’ in the battle for the TCR Europe title, with the series kicking off at the Hungaroring this weekend with a 38-car field.

For 2019 Homola has switched to the European regional TCR series, having raced in the FIA World Touring Car Cup in 2018.

The series is not the only change for the Slovak driver, as he will also race a Hyundai i30 N TCR for Target Competition, with four team-mates in the large five-car Italian team.

Having tasted victory last year in WTCR, Homola is keen to go even better in TCR Europe in 2019. He will face a tough task, with 31 full season entries and even a 38 car field in Hungary as the TCR Eastern Europe series joins the fray.

“I can’t wait to be back in the car after the long break,” said Homola. “We have a great car, and I tested it on the Hungaroring in the pre-season test.

“I like this track and I have had some good results here. In addition, I am really excited, as I expect many Slovak fans to come, as this will be the closest we will come this year to Slovakia. We are not coming closer to my homeland this year.

“And I am really happy for the cooperation with the Slovak national TV RTVS, as motorsport will get the same air time, as for example, cycling, or biathlon.

“The competition will be huge. There will be 31 drivers on start, with ten drivers in the same car as me. I will fight like a tiger!”
