Norbert Michelisz expecting a ‘very hard weekend’ in Hungary

Norbert Michelisz is predicting that his home round of the FIA World Touring Car Cup will prove to be a ‘very hard weekend’ for the BRC Racing Hyundai driver, due to the current Balance of Performance [BoP] situation.

BRC Racing made clear their displeasure at the current BoP prior to the season-opening round in Morocco, with the situation remaining unchanged for the second event of the season at the Hungaroring.

In Marrakech Michelisz was only able to break into the top ten once, when he finished eighth in race three, having earlier only managed 11th and 12th in the first two races respectively.

The Hungarian fan favourite is therefore not predicting he will be able to challenge at the very front this weekend, expecting a tough weekend as he seeks to score consistent points.

“[Marrakech] was hard but we expected that it would be hard,” said Michelisz. “We knew the podium was available only in the reverse-grid race.

“I am expecting a very hard weekend here too. But you have to collect as much points as you can when you don’t have the other possibilities to fight for the podium.

“I am very curious because I don’t know where my place will be this weekend, but we will see after the first practice and qualifying.”

Michelisz last won at the Hungaroring in 2015, and the 34-year-old is wishing for a return to the podium in front of his home fans.

“The BoP will change, and it will be more clear after the third racing weekend; we will have a clear picture then. We will see if we can fight for the podium.

“If I could wish something the Hungaroring would be the place to achieve my first podium of the season. I feel strong and ready, but Morocco was not my race.”
