Abarth Trophy regular Cosimo Barberini will join the TCR Europe field at Monza this weekend, racing a Subaru WRX STi run by NOS Racing.
Barberini has previously competed in TCR machinery, having raced in selected events in the 2017 TCR Italy series and one event in TCR Germany, sampling both SEAT León and Alfa Romeo Giulietta machinery in the process.
Now the 28-year-old will try a Top Run Motorsport-built Subaru in the penultimate round of the TCR Europe series, making his international racing début.
“It’s a great opportunity for Cosimo and our team to take the first steps in international touring car racing,” explained Team Principal Massimo Poli. “We have a good cooperation with Top Run and Cosimo is a very fast driver and deserves an opportunity to grow up further at an international level.
“We would like to take part in the series’ finale at Barcelona and have the ambitions to set up a full programme for next year.
“We are very much looking forward to the Monza weekend and hope we can make a good show.”
As well as his TCR Europe début, Barberini is also looking likely to clinch a third successive title in the Abarth Trophy, which concludes in October with two more race meetings at Monza and Vallelunga respectively.
