WestCoast Racing has confirmed that it will run three cars in this weekend’s Croft TCR UK round after all, despite the event clashing with the Scandinavian TCR series at Rudskogen in Norway.
There had been doubt over the Swedish team’s participation in the penultimate round of the TCR UK season, with Team Manager James Nixon initially indicating after the previous round at Oulton Park that the team would focus on STCC.
That uncertainty in part was down to frustrations over Lloyd’s second 15-point penalty deduction at Oulton Park, as well as the fact that competing at Croft had never been in the team’s plans, with Lloyd hoping to have a stronger championship advantage at this stage of the season.
However with Dan Lloyd firmly in title contention in the UK, and Swedish siblings Andreas and Jessica Bäckman having a greater chance of strong results at Croft, the team has elected to send three cars to Yorkshire and one, for Fredrik Eklbom, to the STCC event.
“[Due to] the run for the championship victory in England and the fact that both Andreas and Jessica have the chance of good results there, when we realised we could divide the team this way and drive Fredrik in Norway and the other three at Croft, we took a joint decision,” explained Team Founder Dick Jönsson-Wigroth.
“In this way we can cater to all of our partners and I look forward to seeing how the team will be able to get on with two racing weekends at the same time.
“It will be an interesting and fun weekend. As for myself, I will go with Fredrik and that part of the team to Norway.”
Lloyd can secure the TCR UK title this weekend if he outscores chief rival Ollie Taylor by 13 points.
