Target Competition’s Dušan Borković says he knew a wet qualifying session would be tough, but is pleased with fourth position as he had no wet knowledge in his Hyundai i30 N TCR.
Borković, who currently sits second in the championship standings, admits that he didn’t want rain as he was happy with his dry form after topping second practice yesterday.
He told TouringCars.Net that he wanted more, but given a lack of wet running he took solace in being the fastest Hyundai driver.
“I expected rain but in my heart I didn’t want it,” said Borković. “Because I knew that we didn’t have any knowledge of the Hyundai for the wet.
“I knew that it was going to be really tough, when I saw rain I was just too cautious I was making a lot of mistakes at the beginning and then I just did some laps to make it through to Q2.
“In Q2 I didn’t want to take risks for the slicks, which I heard that [Mikel] Azcona was on the front, because they were slower in Q1 and didn’t have anything to lose and they made a really good lap time.”
Despite Azcona’s large margin of pole, Borković was encouraged by his pace relative to the Hell Energy Racing Team with KCMG duo of Attila Tassi and Josh Files who sit ahead of him in second and third respectively.
“I was just in the same two tenths as the Hondas,” he said. “Attila had more knowledge for the wet here because he is local and maybe him and Files had a better setup for the wet.
“I am the first Hyundai but I expected to be at least in the top three but my aim for this weekend was to be right at the top as I showed in free practice yesterday.
“If it’s going to stay like this, with rain, it will be really difficult because there will be a lot of water.
“If somebody misses a braking point or something then this could be really tricky.”
Race one of the weekend at the Hungaroring is scheduled to get underway at 13:40 CEST (12:40 BST).
