Dan Lloyd ‘fully committed to TCR’ despite BTCC return

Dan Lloyd says he is ‘fully committed’ to maintaining his lead in the inaugural TCR UK series in 2018, despite having been announced as taking over James Nash’s seat in the British Touring Car Championship for the rest of the season.

Lloyd will take over from Nash in one of BTC Norlin Racing’s Honda Civics for the rest of the year, starting with Oulton Park this weekend, returning to a car which he previously put on the front row of the grid at the track in 2016.

“I’m really excited to be joining BTC Norlin,” said Lloyd. “The deal came about very last minute, literally this morning. Bert [Taylor] has been following my progress in the TCR so when the seat became available he called me straight up. I’m very grateful and flattered to be asked to step in.

“I’ve not had any time in the car yet. FP1 on Saturday will be my first run out so I’ve no expectations at the moment. As a new driver to the championship, I will be carrying the 45 kg of late entry ballast into the first race so it’ll be a big challenge.

“It’s nice to come back at Oulton Park, which is one of my local rounds. I’m just looking to find my feet on this year’s grid, have a solid weekend and get to know the team and the car.”

Lloyd insists that he remains fully committed to continuing in the TCR UK series, having had a perfect start to the year with three pole positions and six race wins so far.

With no calendar clashes between the BTCC and TCR UK, Lloyd will be able to contest all 11 race weekends left in the two series.

“It’s great that I’m in the position to keep my TCR UK campaign running alongside this and I’m still fully committed to the TCR and WestCoast Racing. It’s certainly going to be a busy season!”
