Team Abt Sportsline’s Nico Müller took top honours in the final Deutshce Tourenwagen Masters free practice session at EuroSpeedway Lausitz, as the Swiss driver was the only one to break the 1m39s barrier.
Müller led an Audi Sport 1-2, with Team Rosberg’s Jamie Green second quickest, 0.179 seconds behind, whilst Lucas Auer completed the top three as the best of the Mercedes contingent.
France’s Loïc Duval made it three RS5 DTMs in the top four just 0.011 seconds behind the young Austrian, with praise being given to the Audi Sport teams that carried out the repairs, following the damage sustained during both incidents.
Daniel Juncadella led a trio of Mercedes drivers in fifth place, with the Spaniard posting a best effort of a 1:39.141, ahead of Gary Paffett and yesterday’s race one winner, Edoardo Mortara.
Points leader Timo Glock was the quickest of the BMW drivers down in eighth place, 0.363 seconds off the pace set by Müller, with former champions Pascal Wehrlein and Mike Rockenfeller completing the top ten.
DTM rookie Philipp Eng, who took his maiden podium in only his third race in the series, was 11th fastest, in what was a very closely-matched field, who were split by just 0.807 seconds.
Paul Di Resta was 12th fastest, ahead of the BMWs of Bruno Spengler, Marco Wittmann, Augusto Farfus and Joel Eriksson, with Robin Frijns rounding out the 17-strong field.
Defending champion René Rast will be a spectator for the remainder of the weekend, but is in attendance.
The final qualifying session of the weekend gets underway at 1125 local time (BST + 1), lasting for 20 minutes.
