WestCoast Racing’s Dan Lloyd continued his dominance of the TCR UK Series at Knockhill, winning the reverse-grid race two in emphatic style after coming through from ninth on the grid.
The reverse grid format for the race put SWR’s Sean Walkinshaw on pole position and the Honda driver got a good start, but the Hyundai of Lewis Kent made a move up the inside into Turn 1 and took the lead heading down to Turn 2.
Kent then led the first seven laps of the race, until Team BMR’s Josh Price, who had passed Walkinshaw for second on lap four, made a move for the lead heading into the first turn.
But a charging Lloyd had made his way up to second by lap eight, and the Volkswagen driver immediately set about reigning in Price’s 1.5 second lead.
On lap 11 Lloyd made his move for the lead, getting a good run on the exit of Turn 1 to pass before Turn 3, and the points leader was in charge from that point onwards.
Price, lacking the pace to take the fight to Lloyd, settled for second, whilst Walkinshaw held on to take third, despite a late-race safety car intervention that almost saw DW Racing’s Darelle Wilson sneak onto the podium.
The safety car had to be called upon due to Ollie Taylor ending up in the gravel at Turn 1. The Pyro Motorsport driver spent much of the first half of the race in seventh, but started to make progress heading into the final third before attempting a pass on WestCoast Racing’s Jessica Bäckman for fourth. The duo made contact as Bäckman turned in, ending Taylor’s race on the spot.
Andreas Bäckman finished in fifth ahead of his sister Jessica in sixth, although the latter is under investigation for the incident with Taylor.
Derek Palmer was the sole Alfa Romeo driver in the race and finished in seventh, whilst Laser Tools Racing team-mate Aiden Moffat failed to take the start due to another failure on his car unrelated to the driveshaft issue that struck him halfway through race one.
Kent finished the race in eighth, two laps down, after suffering from tyre issues mid-way through the race and having to pit for a replacement.
Finlay Crocker retired from the race at the end of the opening lap, having had a spin at Clark’s just three corners into the race.
Lloyd’s fourth win of the season means he has a 66-point lead over Andreas Bäckman in the championship standings.
The next round of the TCR UK Series takes place at Brands Hatch on 2 – 3 June.
