Two-time TCR International Series champion Stefano Comini will take part in the 2018 TCR Europe series at the wheel of a Subaru WRX STi run by new outfit Race Republic.
Comini had been without a drive until the deal, having raced for the past three seasons in TCR International but being unable to secure a seat in the new FIA World Touring Car Cup (WTCR).
The Swiss racer has now secured a seat for the seven-event TCR Europe series, with a Top Run Motorsport-built Subaru.
“It will not be the only machine you will see on track with us,” said Team Manager Stefano Fecchio. “Subaru is a project to itself; we have several surprises. We do not rule out later also other sports for which we are looking for the right talents.”
Comini is looking forward to the season after a long winter, with the first round taking place at Circuit Paul Ricard in the south of France this weekend.
“It was the longest winter of my racing career,” said Comini. “We have worked a lot and have met with a series of issues that delayed the plan until last week.
“I had to change plans a week ago, I had to be flexible but they [Race Republic] helped me. A heartfelt thank you to all my collaborators that I hope to introduce you soon.
“I am very grateful to Race Republic as they were finally able to put this programme together.”
The livery of Comini’s car will be revealed in the coming days.
