Eurotech Racing’s Jack Goff says he is pleased with his fightback from 13th position to third in race two at Donington Park for round five of the British Touring Car Championship.
Goff qualified in sixth position with 66kg of championship success ballast on board, and dropped to 13th position after struggling on the harder compound tyre.
He told TouringCars.Net he had opted for the less-preferred tyre for race one as he didn’t expect to qualify in the top six, and wanted to get rid of both the tyre and weight early in the day.
“We weren’t expecting to qualify quite as well as we did,” said Goff. “I was probably expecting more down the back end of the top ten, sort of ninth or tenth or somewhere down there.
“So we elected to go race one with the hard tyre to try to get rid of that weight and the hard tyre at the same time, and then we qualified sixth and that was a bit of a pain really. In a weird way we chucked away a decent result in the first race.
“But at least it meant we got rid of the hard tyre and the weight in one go. We were hanging on a little bit in race one so it was nice to be the other way around in that one.”
Goff remains second in the championship standings – as he did after the Brands Hatch season opener three weeks ago – and says scoring solid points each weekend is his main focus in 2018.
“It is the long game, that’s the biggest thing there really, there’s 30 races – it’s a long old season.
“We’ve got to score some more decent points in the next race, make sure we don’t get a DNF and it’ll be a decent weekend’s work.
“Another solid top ten is the aim, that’s what we need to do. If we can get a top six or seven, that’d be perfect.”
