WestCoast Racing has confirmed that it will enter two Volkswagen Golf GTi cars for Swedish siblings Jessica and Andreas Bäckman in the opening round of the inaugural TCR UK series at Silverstone.
The Swedish team have been long-time supporters of the TCR concept, having run Honda Civic TCR cars in the first two seasons of TCR International in 2015 and 2016.
The team have now confirmed plans to enter the cars for Sweden’s Bäckman siblings in the first round.
Both drivers are three-time Swedish karting champions in their respective classes, and 22-year-old Andreas and 20-year-old Jessica have also competed in the RX2 category of the FIA World Rallycross Championship in 2017.
It was Andreas who emerged on top out of the two last year, with the sibling rivalry set to continue at Silverstone next weekend.
The Swedish entries come after Finland’s LMS Racing announced plans to enter a CUPRA for Olli Parhankangas, giving the first event a healthy contingent of Scandinavian drivers.
“We’re really pleased to be able to confirm our TCR UK entry with two cars for Andreas and Jessica,” said Team Manager James Nixon. “We’ve already completed one test in Zandvoort and, although you can never read too much into testing at this time of year, we’re more than happy with our pace after only one test.
“This year is a very big learning year for both Jessica and Andreas but throughout the Zandvoort test it was a pleasure to see two young drivers hungry for success.”
