A record-equalling 20 TC1 cars will be on the starting grid for the World Touring Car Championship’s return to Macau, thanks to the addition of Mak Ka Lok in a LADA and Chan Kin Pong and Wong Po Wah in Campos Racing Chevrolets.
The previous highest number of TC1 cars to take to the starting grid in the WTCC was 19, at the Slovakiaring in 2015 and again at the Twin Ring Motegi in 2016.
The entry list for the penultimate event of the 2017 season currently features 19 cars, although organisers have issued a press release stating that 20 TC1 cars will be present for the Guia race.
Macanese racer Mak Ka Lok has previously raced in the WTCC between 2011 and 2014, racing S2000 BMW machinery for the RPM Racing Team. It will be his first taste of TC1 machinery when he gets behind the wheel of the RC Motorsport LADA.
Both Kin-Pong and Wong are WTCC rookies, with the Hong Kong racers getting behind the wheel of Campos’ Chevrolets. The team’s regular driver, Esteban Guerrieri, who has this weekend been revealed as a replacement for the injured Tiago Monteiro at Honda, does not currently feature on the entry list.
