Honda go heavy for WTCC outing in China

Honda will carry the maximum 80 kg of compensation weight when the World Touring Car Championship races on the brand new Ningbo International Speedpark next weekend.

Based on the lap time performance in the previous two events in Portugal and Argentina, the Civics will carry the maximum weight once again in 2017.

The Civics have also scored the best results in those meetings, with two wins for Norbert Michelisz and a combined five podiums between the Hungarian and Tiago Monteiro, compared with three podiums for Volvo Polestar.

Honda currently lead the drivers’ championship standings with Monteiro, who is 12 points ahead of Volvo’s Thed Björk and 29 points ahead of Michelisz.

Volvo will also get an increase in weight, taking their total to 70 kg. The independent Citroën drivers will drop from carrying maximum weight to 50 kg, making their C-Elysées lighter than the factory-backed cars.

The Hondas previously ran with 60 kg of weight in Argentina, whilst the Volvos were previously on the same weight.

There will be no weight for either the Chevrolet RML Cruze cars or the LADA Vesta cars, marking no change from the previous event.
