Daniel Lloyd ‘spurred on’ for Thai TCR International races

Daniel Lloyd says he is ‘spurred on’ by the fact that he has risen to 12th overall in the TCR International Series drivers’ standings in just six races, as he heads to Thailand to continue his season this weekend.

The Craft-Bamboo Racing driver replaced Hugo Valente for the ninth round of the season onwards, and the Brit secured his best-ever TCR result last time out in Germany, where he finished second in the first race of the day and fourth in race two.

Now Lloyd heads to the Chang International Circuit in Buriram, Thailand for this weekend’s races, where he has previous experience thanks to racing (and winning) on the track in the GT Asia Series in 2015 with the Craft-Bamboo team.

“It’s been a really long break, so I’m definitely ready to get back behind the wheel;” said Lloyd. “We’ve got 20 kilos of success ballast on board this weekend, which is not a huge amount but it will have an effect, especially with the racing being as close as it is.”

Lloyd is aware of the importance in helping the Anglo-Hong Kong outfit in the Teams’ title race, where they are second overall and 33 points behind leaders M1RA.

“This weekend could have a big impact on our challenge for the Teams’ title, so we just really need to push and try to close the gap to the leaders.

“Having only done six races out of the 12 so far and still managing to get into 12th in the drivers’ championship has spurred me on now.

“I really want to take that momentum into the last three rounds and get up into the top 6 if possible. Also getting that first win is still high on my wish list!

“I know the circuit well and have good memories there. It suits the car well and is quite similar to Oschersleben, being tight and twisty so we should go well.

“We’re due some huge thunderstorms this weekend as well so that should make the racing even more interesting.

“It’s really cool to travel to these places and I feel lucky to have the opportunity to race at these amazing circuits. I’m excited to be going back to race in Thailand again.”
