TCR Asia Series points leader Kantadhee Kusiri will join the WestCoast Racing team for this weekend’s TCR International Series races in Thailand, replacing Giacomo Altoè in the team’s second Volkswagen Golf.
The team were forced to look for another driver after Italian youngster Altoè made a last-minute switch to the Hungarian M1RA team, who had themselves been seeking a replacement driver for the injured Roberto Colciago.
Thai racer Kusuiri joins the team fresh from claiming a dominant double victory in last weekend’s TCR Asia races in Shanghai, which have vaulted him to the top of the championship standings in the regional series.
“It’s a pleasure to have Kantadhee with us for this round of the championship,” said Team Manager James Nixon. “His record in TCR Asia is impressive and he will be a great partner for Gianni [Morbidelli] this weekend.
“We are aiming high after the fantastic results in Germany. The Golf GTi TCR is working very well at the moment and we need to make the most of every opportunity to score well with both cars.”
WestCoast Racing head into the Asian leg of the season on a high, after Morbidelli took pole position and victory in both of the previous races in Germany.
