Gordon Shedden hopeful of Knockhill success

The British Touring Car Championship heads to Knockhill this coming weekend, as home soil favourite Gordon Shedden continues to lead the overall drivers’ standings by a mere two points ahead of West Surrey Racing’s Colin Turkington.

The Scot, who won the final race at Snetterton nearly a fortnight ago, is looking to add to his tally of four wins and nine podiums at the Fife-based circuit, which hosts rounds 19, 20 and 21 this weekend.

“It’s great that we go into the weekend at the top of the championship, which didn’t look likely after qualifying at Snetterton,” said the 38-year-old, who is on course to become the first man since Andy Rouse to take three drivers’ titles in succession.

“Winning race three there was a crucial result and it just goes to show that it’s not over until it’s over in the BTCC!”

Shedden is very aware that the action will be more intense around the 1.27-mile circuit, with lap times set to be quicker than the respective qualifying and race lap records set by Subaru’s Jason Plato and Turkington last season.

“We hope the car will be better suited to Knockhill, which couldn’t be further away from Snetterton – in terms of both characteristics and geographically!” admitted the three-time champion, who along with team mate Matt Neal are trying to secure their fourth title in the series.

“The crowd are really close to the action and the atmosphere is always electric – we will hang it all on the line, which should make for some great racing.”
