Niels Langeveld claimed his second legitimate TCR Germany victory in the season in a much more well-mannered race two at Zandvoort, having earlier been stripped of his win in Saturday’s first race.
Langeveld started the reverse-grid race from pole position and was never headed in the race, claiming his third win on the road this season, but his second legal win after losing Saturday’s race one victory.
Prosport Performance’s Sheldon van der Linde was second, claiming his best result of the season, despite the Audi driver initially losing the position to championship leader Josh Files at the start of the race. The South African was able to reclaim the position on lap two with a well-timed move at the final corner.
Third went to Engstler Motorsport’s Jason Wolfe, who claimed his second successive podium finish despite late-race pressure from Mike Halder, which also included a nudge from the SEAT on the Volkswagen three corners from the finish.
Steve Kirsch was the leading Honda driver in fifth, having lost out to Halder after the safety car restart on lap 11, with the race neutralisation required following Rudolf Rhyn being punted into the gravel by Stefan Goede at Turn 11.
Aust Motorsport’s Sandro Kaibach was sixth, having lost out to Kirsch late in the race, ahead of Saturday’s pole-sitter Harald Proczyk in seventh, who gained the position at the Tarzan hairpin on the final lap of the race.
Steibel Motorsport’s Pascal Eberle took eighth after also following Proczyk through past Luca Engstler on the final lap of the race, leaving the Engstler Motorsport driver to take ninth.
Wolf-Power Racing’s Alex Morgan was the leading Brit in the race after championship leader Files suffered a drama on lap seven when he lost over ten places in the space of a lap.
The Target Competition driver had been defending from Wolfe for the final podium position before then getting out of position on the circuit and losing places as he sought to avoid contact with the charging field behind. Files ultimately finished in 14th.
The result sees Files’ championship lead reduced for the first time this season, although he still holds a health 102 point advantage of second-placed Halder.
The next round of the ADAC TCR Germany Series takes place at the Nürburgring on the 5th and 6th August.
