Rob Huff rose to the top of the times late on in second practice for the World Touring Car Championship on the streets of Vila Real in Portugal, just ahead of Honda’s Norbert Michelisz.
Huff hit the top of the times with just three minutes left in the 45-minute session, demoting Michelisz to second, who had been on top for most of the running.
The Brit’s lap was a mere 0.027 seconds faster than the Honda driver, with the Münnich Motorsport driver gaining more than a second over the time he had posted in first practice earlier in the morning.
As in first practice, Tiago Monteiro was just behind his team-mate in third, albeit with the Portuguese home hero over half a second adrift of Huff’s pace.
Nicky Catsburg was the leading Polestar Volvo driver in fourth, ahead of team-mate Thed Björk in fifth.
Esteban Guerrieri, now as the sole Chevrolet representative after Tom Coronel’s shunt in first practice, was the leading independent driver in sixth. The Argentine put his Campos Racing car just under a second off the pace.
Sébastien Loeb Racing’s Mehdi Bennani was seventh, ahead of the third Volvo of Néstor Girolami in eighth.
The three RC Motorsport LADA drivers of Yann Ehrlacher (11th), Kevin Gleason (13th) and Manuel Fernandes (15th) completed the most laps during the session, with all three drivers focussing on track time.
As reported earlier, ROAL Motorsport’s Coronel will play no further part in the weekend due the damage sustained to his car in first practice, where he crashed into a fire rescue vehicle at the end of an escape road.
Qualifying is scheduled to begin at 15:30 WEST (15:30 BST, 16:30 CEST).
