Saturday’s maiden pole-setter René Rast, driving for Audi Team Rosberg, topped the timing sheets in this morning’s final practice session for the second DTM race at the Hungaroring this weekend.
Audi took over the top four positions once again – just as the German brand did in yesterday’s qualifying for race one.
The Audi Team Rosberg duo of Rast and Jamie Green turned the quickest laps, putting them first and second – the same order as in yesterday’s qualifying. Audi Abt Sportsline driver Nico Müller and Audi Team Phoenix’s Mike Rockenfeller followed in third and fourth place.
Championship leader and Mercedes HWA Team driver Lucas Auer represented the quickest Mercedes-Benz of the session in fifth – more than four hundreds of a second adrift of Müller’s best time.
DTM newcomer Loïc Duval fought an oversteering Team Phoenox Audi and had a spin nearing the end of the session, but still managed to place his car in seventh place. The Frenchman was followed by Mercedes HWA’s Gary Paffett in eighth place.
Maxime Martin of the Team RBM outfit put in the 12th best lap-time, making the Belgian the highest placed BMW driver of the morning. All of the Bavarian manufacturer’s cars occupied six of the final seven positions – only split by the HWA Mercedes of Edorado Mortara in 15th.
Qualifying for race two will go live today from 12:00 CEST (11:00 BST) with race two following at 15:18 CEST (14:18 BST).
