Hungarian team LP Winner Motorsport are to enter a KIA Cee’d TCR in this weekend’s TCR International Series races at the Hungaroring, with István Bernula to get behind the wheel.
The team were originally set to compete in TCR Germany this year, although they have only just received the first of their STARD-built Cee’d TCR cars.
The announcement takes the total number of Hungarian drivers competing on home soil to nine, joining M1RA’s Norbert Michelisz and Attila Tassi, Zengő Motorsport’s Ferenc Ficza, Dániel Nagy, Csaba Toth, Csaba Mór and Anett György, and Unicorse Team’s Márk L. Jedlóczky.
The appearance of the car in the DTM-supporting paddock also marks the first appearance of KIA in the TCR International Series.
34-year-old Bernula has previously competed in the Suzuki Swift and Lotus Exige European Cups. He was European Suzuki Swift champion in 2015, as well as claiming the Hungarian title in 2015 and 2016.
