Rob Collard left Croft with ‘mixed feelings’ after picking up just one podium at a circuit where the BMW was expected to be the form car.
Collard remains the only driver in the field to have finished every race in the points this season, with the Team BMW driver having also scored an impressive 14 out of 15 top ten finishes.
On race day, Collard picked up a podium in race two when he followed team-mate Colin Turkington and Subaru’s Ash Sutton home in third, but the Hampshire driver could only take the chequered flag in eighth in race three after contact with both factory Hondas.
“I have mixed feelings about the weekend,” said Collard, who is still second overall in the drivers’ championship standings after marginally closing g the gap to Gordon Shedden. “On the one hand it’s great to maintain my run of scoring points in every race and finishing on the podium at every event because it keeps me right in the hunt for the championship.
“However, we’ve had such strong race pace today, it’s a little frustrating that my results haven’t quite reflected this.
“I couldn’t match some of the cars I was racing with for straight-line speed, and I’ve been pushed off in race three by an unnecessary move by Matt Neal.
“I’m confident of continuing this strong run at Snetterton after the summer break.”
WSR Team Principal Dick Bennetts was critical of Honda’s Neal after the incident in race three, where the pair made contact whilst Collard was running in fifth.
“I think Rob could have been on the podium in race three too,” said Bennetts. “But it seems some of the more established drivers have lapsed back into their old tricks, which is disappointing to see.
“We’ve reached a few milestones today, which are very nice to have, but at WSR we look forwards, not backwards, and that means focusing on making sure we stay in championship contention for the rest of the season.”
