Polestar Cyan Racing has announced that four-time World Touring Car Champion Yvan Muller will join the team as a test and development driver for the 2017 season.
Muller, who announced his retirement from the WTCC at the end of 2016, has been testing for the Swedish team in recent months, and has now been officially announced in his new role.
The Frenchman officially joined the team on 1 January 2017, but his involvement has only now been made official public with a statement from the outfit.
“I am really glad and proud to have recruited Yvan to Cyan Racing,” said Cyan Racing CEO Christian Dahl. “There is no other touring car driver as experienced as him in the world and he is a vital asset to the team.
“We can already see the progress made, even though our cooperation is still quite new. The plan for the moment is that he is not going to race for us, but rather focus on testing and development.”
Muller, who spent three years with Citroën before the marque pulled the plug on its WTCC programme at the end of last season, is looking forward to helping the team become regular front-runners.
”To start a cooperation with Cyan Racing is something that I am very pleased with,” added Muller. “They developed strongly last year for their first season and we have made interesting progress during the winter testing.
“I look forward to continuing to work with them and developing the car, as well as the team.”
Muller will be present behind the wheel of the Polestar Volvo S60 at the official pre-season test at Monza next week on March 14 – 15th.
