Team Art Sportsline’s Edoardo Mortara posted fastest time during the first free practice session for the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters race weekend at the Hungaroring, setting a lap time of 1:36.673 around the 4.381-km circuit.
In a session that saw none of the BMW Motorsport drivers in the top ten, Mortara was 0.165 seconds ahead of Mercedes HWA’s Robert Wickens, with current lap record holder Nico Müller completing the top three, a mere 0.028 seconds behind the Canadian.
Both Audi Sport and Mercedes-AMG DTM had five of their cars in the top ten, with Mattias Ekström, Miguel Molina and Jamie Green fourth, ninth and tenth fastest respectively.
Lucas Auer led four other Mercedes C63 AMG DTMs, being the next-best placed of the Stuttgart ranks in fifth, ahead of Gary Paffett, Christian Vietoris and Felix Rosenqvist, with all four drivers separated by 0.145 seconds.
Current points leader Marco Wittmann was the best of the Munich contingent, as the Fürth-based driver was 0.654 seconds off the pace set by his chief rival. Daniel Juncadella and Adrien Tambay were 12th and 13th fastest, ahead of Paul Di Resta and Augusto Farfus.
The Team Phoenix pairing of Mike Rockenfeller and Timo Scheider would be the slowest of the eight Audi drivers behind Farfus, with the top 17 drivers split by 1.004 seconds.
Second free practice for the DTM starts at 1045 CEST (BST + 1), lasting for 30 minutes.
