A strangely unremarkable second free practice session ahead of this weekends British Touring Car Championship triple header at Rockingham ended with Silverline Subaru BMR Racing’s Colin Turkington atop the timesheets.
Double champion Turkington, who set a fastest lap time of 1:22.914 around the 1.94 mile circuit, headed up a much more representative timesheet than the morning session, with Tom Ingram and Matt Neal rounding out the top three some two tenths of a second adrift of the Subaru Levorg GT.
Turkington’s team-mate Jason Plato was forced to miss all but the opening exchanges of the forty-minute session after he ran over a kerb at turn nine too aggressively and broke the sump on his Subaru’s engine, leaking oil in the pit lane en route to an early retirement in order to give Team BMR the maximum amount of time possible for repairs before qualifying at 15:30.
After telling TouringCars.net earlier that he was looking to find more pace in the Civic Type-R during second practice, defending champion Gordon Shedden’s reward was fourth fastest, with two-time Rockingham race winner Rob Austin rounding out the top five.
It was another session of consistent work, rather than outright pace, for West Surrey Racing as all three cars worked through a steady program. Rob Collard placed highest of the trio in 10th, with Goff 15th and Tordoff in 21st.
Andrew Jordan, who set the pace earlier in the day, was sixth, with Adam Morgan, Aron Smith, Hunter Abbott and the aforementioned Collard rounding out the top ten.
Qualifying for Round 22 of the British Touring Car Championship gets underway at 15:30, with some expectation of light rain for the session.
