Sam Tordoff is set to run a commemorative livery at this weekends British Touring Car Championship meeting at Croft to celebrate the 70th anniversary of title sponsors and family business JCT600.
The 27 year-old local hero heads to Croft atop the Drivers standings by a single point from three-time champion Matt Neal after scoring a near-perfect weekend at Oulton Park a fortnight ago.
The BMW 125i M-Sport is set to be a formidable opponent this weekend around the 2.13 mile circuit, with West Surrey Racing’s dominant display last season, in which they claimed all three race victories and their first 1-2-3 finish, fresh in the memories of many in the paddock.
Commenting on the decision to swap the cars striking orange, blue and chrome livery for it’s celebratory paint job, Tordoff stated his pride at representing his family’s business at the only circuit in Yorkshire to feature on the high-profile BTCC calendar.
“It’s an honour to celebrate the platinum anniversary of JCT600 with a special livery at Croft.” commented the championship leader.
“When I saw the first designs of the livery, I thought ‘that’s pretty cool’ and then when I saw the car in person, it looked even better. JCT600 started in Yorkshire, so for a local boy like me to be able to mark the 70th year of the family business in this way – and at the only Yorkshire circuit in the BTCC – makes me feel very proud.”
His Team Principal, Dick Bennetts, also paid tribute to title sponsors JCT600 and regarded it a pleasure to be able to celebrate the landmark with them.
“It’s great to be able to celebrate the platinum anniversary of JCT600 in this way.” he said.
“JCT600 has been a terrific supporter of WSR since the start of 2015 and we’ve taken Sam and Team JCT600 with GardX to the top of the drivers’ and teams’ championships heading into Croft. We’re aiming for strong results from both Sam and from Rob in the sister car. I thought the current two JCT600/Gardx cars looked great, but this 70th anniversary livery looks even better!”
