James Cole has been announced as the fourth and final driver for Team BMR in the 2016 British Touring Car Championship, and will pilot one of the team’s brand-new works’ Subaru Levorg Sports Tourers.
Cole makes the switch from Motorbase Performance, having competed in the second half of last season when the team made it’s return to the grid at Snetterton. His other previous BTCC experience includes drives with United Autosports and Team.HARD.
He will now join forces with arguably the most potent driver lineup in the series, consisting of double champions Jason Plato and Colin Turkington, alongside team boss, Warren Scott.
Commenting on the move, Cole believes he now has his best platform yet on which to develop as a driver, and paid tribute to the calibre of his new colleagues at Team BMR, both on a driving and an engineering front.
“I’m very excited to be joining Warren and the talented team of people he has brought together at BMR. I’ve still got loads to learn in the BTCC and I couldn’t be in a better place to do that alongside Carl and Kevin, my engineer Richard Owen, and two of the best BTCC drivers, Jason and Colin.”
“My previous successes came in rear wheel drive so I believe a big step forward can be made this year. I would also like to thank Warren for this great opportunity. I intend to make the most of it.”
Warren Scott was also pleased with the addition to his team’s ranks, and believes the time has now come for James to showcase his talent.
“It’s great to welcome James to the team and I look forward to seeing how well he does in the Subaru Levorg. He has lots of experience to bring to the BMR team and I believe this is the right time and place for him to showcase his ability.” Scott commented.
His sentiments were also echoed by Team Manager, Alan Cole, who believes his namesake will benefit from the experience of his new stablemates, and is expecting another positive season for Team BMR after they took four championship titles last season.
“I am pleased to welcome James to the team, I look forward to adding his rear wheel drive experience to our new project and I am expecting good things for the season as he learns from his team mates.” said Cole.
The team now continue to focus on ensuring all four brand-new Subaru Levorg Sports Tourers are ready for the official Season Launch at Donington Park on March 22nd.
