Ma Qing Hua remained on top of the times in second practice for the World Touring Car Championship in Shanghai, as Craft-Bamboo Racing’s Grégoire Demoustier was a shock second quickest.
Demoustier, the leading Chevrolet driver in second, put in his best practice performance of the season, although such was Ma’s pace at the front he was still 0.604 seconds slower.
Completing a strong session for the Chevrolets, ROAL Motorsport duo Tom Chilton and Tom Coronel ended up third and fourth, and were the last drivers to be within a second of the Chinese drivers pace.
Championship leader José María López was fifth fastest, 1.090 seconds off the pace, ahead of Campos Racing’s Hugo Valente in sixth, with the Frenchman making his first foray into the top ten this weekend.
LADA’s Rob Huff was seventh, ahead of Citroën’s Sébastien Loeb in eighth, the duo being separated by just two hundredths of a second.
Completing the top ten were Campos Racing’s John Filippi, who made it five Chevrolets in the top ten, and Sébastien Loeb Racing’s Mehdi Bennani.
All three of the Honda Civics, which had shown strong pace early on in the weekend, were outside the top ten, with Gabriele Tarquini the quickest in the Japanese cars in 11th.
