Jack Goff was satisfied with seventh on the grid for tomorrow’s opening British Touring Car Championship race at Snetterton, despite feeling he could have qualified further up.
24 year-old Goff went into the session confident of a strong result, and looked as though he might secure that after going fastest in the first sector on his final run, only to get his braking wrong at Brundle.
The Triple Eight Racing driver nevertheless ended the session with the seventh fastest time, 0.320s shy of pole, and said he was relatively happy despite something of a missed opportunity.
“It wasn’t too bad,” said Goff, when asked by TouringCars.Net if he was happy with the session. “I think if we’d had put or sector times altogether we should have been about P4.
“The last lap I went purple and the best of anybody then had a little bit of an issue on the brakes underneath the bridge and went straight on.
“It [the pace] was a little more than we had expected so it’s a bit of a shame really, I think we could have had fourth but these things happen, I’ll take it on the chin and get on with it tomorrow.”
Goff was also insistent that despite missing last month’s tyre test at the circuit, he had confidence in his race pace after a simulation run in first practice.
“I think it held us back more today if anything,” he said, when asked about missing last month’s test. “I’m 130 laps down on everyone else as one of the only ones who didn’t test here so it might hinder us a little bit as far as knowledge goes.
“[But] it’s looking really good. In FP1 I did a bit of a race run and the car felt really strong. I did my best lap on one of the last laps so race-pace wise, we should be in a good position, hopefully to hold the BMWs off on the first lap.”
